QUEZON CITY, Philippines — Aboitiz Power Corporation, through its private limited partnerships GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD), earned recognition at the 61st Anvil Awards for its flagship environmental initiative, the Mangrove Adoption and Protection Program, implemented under the Provincial Government of Bataan’s Project Transform Baka1Bataan.
The program received the Silver Anvil Award under PR Programs – Sustainability Communication category during the Gabi ng Parangal last January 28, 2026, at Solaire Resort North in Quezon City. Organized by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP), the Anvil Awards are widely regarded as the gold standard of excellence in public relations in the Philippines.
“This recognition affirms that sustainability is most impactful when it is clearly communicated and deeply rooted in community partnership,” said Andrea Mellind Madrid, GMEC and GNPD Vice President for Corporate Services. “Through the Mangrove Adoption and Protection Program, we are not only restoring vital coastal ecosystems, but also empowering communities to become long-term stewards of the environment.”
The Mangrove Adoption and Protection Program reflects GMEC and GNPD’s efforts in environmental stewardship, driven by sustained mangrove adoption and protection efforts, and strengthened through close collaborations with host communities in Bataan. The initiative spans multiple coastal sites across the province, integrating science-based mangrove restoration with alternative livelihood development to support biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and community empowerment.
Since its implementation in 2023, the program has achieved a high mangrove seedling survival rate, surpassed community income targets through sustainable livelihood initiatives, and established formal partnerships with local government units, fisherfolk associations, and national agencies. These results position Project Baka1Bataan as a replicable model for community-led coastal protection.
