Thousands of trees—and the hope for a greener future—will take root across the country on June 19 as the Pi Sigma Fraternity Alumni Association Inc. (PSFAAI) rolls out its annual Sigman Tree-Nurturing Project (STP), one of the organization’s flagship environmental initiatives.

The nationwide campaign will be held simultaneously at the University of the Philippines Diliman and various sites across the country, mobilizing fraternity members, families, friends and volunteers in a collective effort to combat climate change and restore the environment.

“We call it ‘tree-nurturing’, more than a simple tree-planting activity, which emphasizes the long-term care and nurturing of trees as we believe that lasting environmental gains come not only from planting seedlings but ensuring they survive and thrive,” PSFAAI National President Oji Sanchez said.

The June 19 activity coincides with the UP Founding Anniversary Week and the birth anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal, linking environmental stewardship with the national hero’s enduring ideals of patriotism, civic duty and nation-building.

PSFAAI’s Director Raul Ben will again spearhead this year’s undertaking, working closely with chapters nationwide to coordinate activities and strengthen participation in local communities.

As climate-related challenges continue to threaten ecosystems and communities, the organization said tree nurturing remains one of the most practical ways to improve air quality, protect watersheds, increase biodiversity and build resilience against environmental degradation.

In a statement. Pi Sigma Freternity said: “Every tree nurtured today is an investment for tomorrow.”

It also called on members and supporters to join the movement, proving that meaningful change can begin with a single seedling and grow into a lasting legacy for future generations.
